    Exhibition Text:

I forget why I life to remember stages a refusal of the photographic as souvenir. Produced during a hitchhiking journey across Europe, the series withholds the disclosure of place — Dover, Furtwangen, Krk appear only as absent coordinates. Instead, what is foregrounded is the artist’s own thumb: the amateur’s error monumentalised, pressed against the lens, skin and blood interrupting the image field.

These intrusions collapse documentation into embodiment. The trace left is not of a site visited but of the body in transit, the index of touch displacing the index of location. The gesture folds travel inward, turning the logic of cultural pilgrimage back onto itself: the desire for enlightenment is refracted as blockage, opacity, and mis-recognition.

In this sense, the work inhabits the space between humour and critique, parodying the visual economies of tourism and social media while attending to the anachronistic affect of the image as both record and obstruction.

Alongside this, an eight-hour stop-motion video assembles every image “scrapped” from the artist’s laptop: holiday snapshots, downloads, corporate data residues. The work exposes the layered economies of personal and impersonal memory, where digital archives accumulate beyond intention. Together, these works displace photography as testimony, reframing it as index, blockage, and residue within broader circuits of cultural pilgrimage and image consumption.
